GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
- ASSEMBLY
The fleet will assemble by the Vice-Commodore’s vessel My Space (Do not wander all over the lake.)
- COURSE
When the Commodore’s vessel is on station at MARK 0 (the centre of the fixed mark race course), the Vice-Commodore will head the fleet around a fixed mark to be announced and then pass by the stern of the Commodore’s vessel. Every attempt will be made to sail on a beam reach.
- ORDER OF THE FLEET
- first Vice-Commodore
- largest to smallest sail vessel
- largest to smallest power boats
- any special groups, guests
- THSC Club Launch, Shadow
- SAILPAST
If you need to, use your motor to maintain position, shut off before passing the Commodore’s vessel (unless there is no wind at all). Everyone will maintain station in a single-file line. Find your lead vessel and get in line following. Do not cross the approach line after saluting. If you miss on your first attempt, you may try again at the end of the line.
- SALUTING
Power or Sail: Lower the Canadian Flag to half-mast, pause five seconds and return to full hoist.
OR
Stand at attention by the stern staff facing the vessel to be saluted, gather the flag in hand and hold against the staff for five seconds, and release.
OR
Remove the flag from the socket, hold in horizontal position for five seconds and return to socket.
OR
Luff your jib for five seconds, then sheet in and clear the area for the following boat.
- DRESSING SHIP
When: Holidays, rendezvous, regattas or similar Where: When vessel is at anchor, dockside or when taking part in a parade or sailpast. (Note THSC prefers that you only dress ship after saluting the Commodore’s yacht).
- FLAG ETIQUETTE (Canadian Flag Positions)
Sail - Stern staff or at the peak of a gaff rigged main or 2/3 up the back of a Marconi rigged main or 2/3 up the back stay.
Power - Stern staff
Club Burgee Positions
Sail - At the mast head or from below the starboard spreader
Power - Bow Staff
- COMMUNICATIONS
All skippers to monitor channel 68. Transmit on channel 68 only when communication is necessary.
- RETURN
This year, when all boats have saluted and the Commodore’s vessel has weighed anchor, the fleet will return to the THSC docks by way of the outer ABYC yacht basin where we will circle and salute appropriately.
